Animal cruelty is never

In style nor fashion so it should come as NO surprise that Portland Fashion Week uses our bully pulpit to promote our causes, one being ANTI ANIMAL CRUELTY AND CALLING FOR AN END TO LIVE ANIMAL EXPERIMENTATION!

Dear reader,

It has come to my attention that there’s an extremely urgent deadline approaching at midnight tonight.

But before I share more details with you, there’s something you need to know about me: I participated in taxpayer-funded experiments on dogs.

Please know that it is very difficult for me to confess my sins to someone I haven’t actually met. So before you judge me, I kindly ask that you allow me a minute to explain myself.

My name is Dr. Larry Hansen.

I'm a physician and board-certified pathologist. I'm involved with treating patients suffering from brain tumors, Parkinson's, and severe neurologic diseases.

I'm also ranked as one of the top 100 Alzheimer's disease researchers worldwide with over 160 publications in the last three decades.

Forty years ago, when I was a medical student, I was instructed to vivisect (from the Latin, "vivi" - meaning, alive, and "secare" - i.e., to cut) and then kill friendly dogs, including a Golden Retriever and a black Labrador Retriever.

The Golden was the "lucky” one. We only cut her open, observed some basic physiologic functions, and killed her.

But the black Labrador Retriever had it far worse...

Week after week, we performed inept and painful procedures on her (bungled mutilations, really) — over and over and over again.

Then we stuck a needle in her, killed her, and dumped her body in a garbage bag -- like trash.

Well these puppies were not trash. And I didn't have the strength of character to stand up to my professors back then.

Although I wish more than anything that I could, it is not possible to change the past.

But I can speak up now… and that’s exactly why I’ve written you this note.

As you may know, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) mandates the most painful dog tests in the United States of America.

There’s often no anesthesia and no pain relief.

My colleagues at the White Coat Waste Project have spent the last 365 days fighting like crazy to cut this ancient regulation that forces pharmaceutical makers to slaughter more than 20,000 puppies every year against their will.

But WCW’s entire campaign is being threatened as you read this.

If you remember, I shared with you that the victims of my ethical failings were a Labrador and a Golden Retriever. That is unusual.

The canine of choice for the animal experimentation industry is usually the beagle.

Have you ever held a beagle puppy in your arms, Tod?

I have.

They are sweet, trusting, docile, and so eager to please.

They look at you with those big brown eyes, and all they want you to do is love them.

And that’s exactly why experimenters take advantage of beagles.

These qualities make it quite easy for white coats to “gavage,” gas, and even burn them with poisonous amounts of experimental drugs.

The demand for lab beagles created by FDA red tape has created a multi-million-dollar industry of “purpose-bred” beagle factory farms.

And the greedy profiteers who own these secretive, hideous establishments have realized that if WCW cuts dog testing red tape out of the FDA’s budget, more than a 1/3 of their business will disappear.

They will go bankrupt!

If WCW can’t afford to fend off the beagle breeding lobby’s attacks before Congress votes on the FDA’s budget, these profiteers will:

  • Breed 20,000+ more beagle puppies who will never see the light of day.

  • “Cull” (aka kill) any puppies who aren’t perfect on the spot.

  • Starve the others and rip out their vocal cords so they don’t "stress out" experimenters.

  • And cash out with millions more in government bailouts after they sell the puppies to FDA-required max-pain drug labs. Virtually none of them will make it to their first birthday.

When Anthony Bellotti, President & Founder of WCW, first invited me to join the board of advisors –- it felt like I was being given a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to right the wrongs of my past.

Anthony and his team have done more for dogs in labs than just about any other group out there.

With the financial support of animal lovers and liberty lovers like you, we’ve ended over 80% of all dog testing that takes place at the Dept. of Veterans Affairs (VA). Eighty percent!

And we just got VA bureaucrats to adopt out a lab puppy survivor… for the first time in history!

END FDA-MANDATED PUPPY TORTURE

What the FDA is forcing drug companies to do to these beagle puppies is horrifying – I’ve seen this kind of abuse with my own eyes.

I’m sick and tired of being forced to pay the salaries of the incompetent bureaucrats who enforce a pointless and wasteful dog testing mandate.

And I’m done letting my government keep greedy and abusive profiteers in business, rewarding them for breeding beagles to love and trust the very people who torture them to advance their careers.

It's a shameful betrayal of a 10,000-year-old bond built upon mutual love and loyalty!

MIDNIGHT DEADLINE: If you agree, please join me by rushing an emergency donation before our budget deadline at this secure link.

Your gift will help me end FDA-mandated beagle torture… and help WCW take out the monsters who breed them simply to suffer.

That’s why I’m repenting for my sins with an emergency gift before midnight… and you should too.
